After more than a decade in development, filming finally began on the South America-set thriller “Triple Frontier” with ultimately filmmaker J.C. Chandor (“All is Lost,” “A Most Violent Year”) taking the helm and Netflix producing the film.
Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal star in the film about an attempt by five colleagues to rob one of the world’s most violent drug cartels based in the Triple Frontier – the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge and which has become a haven for organized crime. Mark Boal (“Zero Dark Thirty”) and Chandor penned the script.
The likes of Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Will Smith and Mahershala Ali have all been attached at some point while Kathryn Bigelow was slated to direct at one time but not it’s finally happening. Shot earlier this year in California, Colombia, and Hawaii, it finally comes to both cinemas and on the streaming service in March.
