Appearing at the D23 expo in Anaheim today, Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter spoke with CNBC and finally revealed the storyline for Pixar’s highly anticipated fourth film in the “Toy Story” series.
“It’s a love story with Woody and – and this is news – Bo Peep… At Pixar and at Disney, we only make sequels if we come up with a story that’s as good or better than the original. That’s our rule. We don’t do things just to print money.”
Though Bo Peep was introduced as Woody’s love interest in the original “Toy Story,” she was absent from the third film and it was suggested she was either donated or sold off. How they plan to bring her back into the narrative is unknown at this time, as is whether Annie Potts will reprise her voice role as the character.
Lasseter and Josh Cooley are helming the new film which boasts a script by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (“Celeste and Jesse Forever”) based on a story idea by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Lee Unkrich.
Galyn Susman will produce and film is currently targeting a June 16th 2017.
