The first reviews for “Toy Story 4” are out and it looks as if Pixar and Disney Pictures have done it again. With 47 reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes, the new sequel has garnered a stunning 100% (8.62/10) score.
That puts it on par with the other films in the series which came in at 100% (9/10), 100% (8.66/10) and 98% (8.87/10) respectively. Here’s a sampling of quotes:
“Pixar could easily retire this series with a clean sweep of films that have been lovely to look at and moving and funny to watch. But if they can maintain this level of wonderful, keep ’em coming.” – Alonso Duralde, TheWrap
“While Toy Story 3 felt like the perfect ending for these characters, Toy Story 4 offers an unexpected epilogue that’s just as meaningful as the films that came before it. It may not have been necessary, but somehow, it still feels right.” – Laura Prudom , IGN Movies
“Cooley’s well-told, exquisitely beautiful finale is perhaps only “very good” in comparison to the Toy stories that came before it, but a victory lap feels like more than enough” – Todd Gilchrist, Birth.Movies.Death.
“A terrific adventure comedy and an appropriate franchise extension that works as a parable for Pixar’s own evolution.” – Scott Mendelson, Forbes
The reviews come as Disney’s new Disney+ streaming service will serve as the home of a series of ten short films based on the new fourth film’s key new character Forky (Tony Hale). Called “Forky Asks A Question,” the ten episodes will all go live with the service in November.
In the series, the character unashamedly asks questions constantly, doing so “with wonder and curiosity and doesn’t get the rules of the universe and all that stuff” says Hale (via The Playlist). The possibility of cameos is also said to be high.
Check out a new TV spot for the film which is set to open in cinemas next Friday.
