Toronto’s “Message for the King,” “Bleeder” Acquired

Netflix is reportedly moving toward an exclusive negotiation to acquire Fabrice Du Weiz’s “Message From the King” in a multi-million dollar deal that would cover U.S. and some foreign territories.

Chadwick Boseman, Teresa Palmer, Luke Evans, Natalie Martinez and Alfred Molina star in the project which premiered last Thursday in Toronto. The vigilante film follows a mysterious traveler from South Africa who combs the Los Angeles underworld for those responsible for the death of his sister.

Meanwhile IFC Films and Showtime are partnering on a deal to acquire Philippe Falardeau’s boxing drama “The Bleeder” which stars Liev Schreiber as New Jersey boxer Chuck Wepner, the Rocky inspiration who almost went the distance with Muhammad Ali.

He soon finds his life on the ropes when he went a few rounds with cocaine. Naomi Watts, Elisabeth Moss, Jim Gaffigan and Ron Perlman also star in the film which Netflix reportedly chased hard.
