SundanceTV has announced a September 10th U.S. premiere date for “Top of the Lake: China Girl,” the upcoming second season of the acclaimed mystery drama series starring Elisabeth Moss as Detective Robin Griffin.
All six episodes, which also star Gwendoline Christie and Nicole Kidman, will air across three nights. The announcement came as part of SundanceTV’s TCA presentation where several other projects were announced.
The most notable is “Unspeakable,” an eight-episode series about the 1980s scandal in Canada in which thousands of people were unnecessarily infected with HIV and Hepatitis C via tainted blood.
Also on the way is “Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders,” a two-night special event on November 18th & 19th about the crime chronicled in Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood” with the special drawing from multiple first-hand accounts.
Then there’s the six-part comedy “Back” which will premiere on Sundance Now this Fall ahead of a 2018 airing on SundanceTV. “Peep Show” duo David Mitchell and Robert Webb star about two estranged brothers taking over their recently deceased father’s business.
The network has set a September 27th premiere date for “Liar,” a new series about a teacher (Joanne Froggatt) whose date with a surgeon (Ioan Gruffudd) sets forth a series of “volatile accusations that capsize their lives”.
Finally, there are two acquisitions which will both premiere on Sundance Now. The first is “Riviera,” Neil Jordan and Paul McGuinness’ new ten-part thriller series starring Julia Stiles. That will kick off September 14th.
The other is “Rillington Place,” the three-part mini-series starring Samantha Morton and Tim Roth. That explores the life of serial killer John Christie in the 1940s and will premiere on November 9th.
