Tony Cavalero Set For “School of Rock”

Actor and comedian Tony Cavalero has scored the lead role of Dewey Finn in the upcoming musical-comedy TV series “School of Rock”. The series premieres on Nickelodeon in early 2015.

Nickelodeon and Paramount Television are producing this TV series version of Richard Linklater’s 2003 film with Cavalero stepping into the role made famous by Jack Black.

Like the film, the story will follow a down and out rock musician who poses as a substitute teacher for a group of unconventional prep schoolers.

Cavalero, a main company member of The Groundlings, has previously guest starred on various sitcoms including “Modern Family,” “2 Broke Girls” and “Hart of Dixie”.

Linklater and producer Scott Rudin will executive produce the television series.
