Tom Shadyac (“Liar Liar,” “Evan Almighty”) is returning to comedy directing as he is in talks to helm a remake of last year’s French-language international sensation “The Intouchables” for The Weinstein Company.
Paul Feig is penning the script, with Colin Firth circling to star in Francois Cluzet’s role from the original. Final casting, however, is not yet locked.
The story deals with a wealthy French aristocrat who, after being paralyzed in a hang-gliding accident, hires a young Senegalese man from the projects to be his caretaker
The original grossed a whopping $416 million in global markets, but only $10 million domestically in the United States. The Weinstein’s scored the remake rights when they picked up the original to distribute.
