Former Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman is taking on a new position as chairman of the soon to launch TriStar Productions over at Sony Pictures.
TriStar Productions will develop, finance and produce up to four features a year to be released under Sony’s TriStar Pictures label, along with long form and series programming for Sony Pictures Television.
Rothman will report to Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton and co-chairman Amy Pascal.
The TriStar Pictures label will also still be used for projects that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions picks up, effectively making this new label akin to what Fox 2000 is to the Fox Entertainment Group.
It also joins Sony’s other film labels including Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Classics.
