Sony is racing forward with its “Spider-Man” spin-off projects. We know “Venom” is aiming to shoot later this year with an October 2018 release planned, and now there’s rumors that the Black Cat & Silver Sable project is also being readied to shoot this Fall for a late 2018 release.
The announcement in recent weeks of both projects has come as a surprise, especially as those involved have indicated that neither will link to the MCU and the world seen in this Summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” – despite all of them being characters from the “Spider-Man” comic world.
Today, Spider-Man actor himself Tom Holland was asked about Sony’s plans at CinemaCon by Variety. He says he doesn’t know anything about these spinoffs: “I have no idea. I haven’t read a script. I haven’t seen any sort of concept art, so that would be something I would decide on when I see material.”
Holland is currently busy with his commitments to the MCU which will keep him occupied for a while:
“They all feel like very different movies to me. ‘Civil War’ was such a whirlwind, and I didn’t really know what was going on. I was thrown into the deep end. ‘Spider-Man’ was the best time of my life. I was there with my best friend. We shot in Atlanta. We shot every day and just had an absolute blast. ‘Avengers’ was crazy, because you’re on set every day with actors I never dreamed I would work with. I’m as much a fan as anyone else.”
The quotes come as a new trailer for the film premiered at CinemaCon yesterday and is now online. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” opens on July 7th.
