Tom Hardy’s “Taboo” Coming To FX

FX has come onboard the BBC drama series “Taboo” starring Tom Hardy, the cable network acquiring U.S. rights to the series.

Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders,” “Eastern Promises”) and filmmaker Ridley Scott are also onboard the series which Knight created from an original story by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy.

Set in 1813, Hardy plays a rogue adventurer who returns to England from Africa with fourteen ill-gotten diamonds and the need to seek vengeance for his father’s death. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own shipping empire and finds himself playing a dangerous game with two warring nations – Britain and America.

Production on the eight-episode first season begins mid-to-late next year in the U.K. ahead of a 2016 airing. Knight, Scott, Tom Hardy, Kate Crowe, Dean Baker and Gene Stein will executive produce.
