Roger S.H. Schulman (“Shrek,” “Jungle Book 2”) has been hired to pen a script for a film adaptation of the Magic Kingdom theme park ride “Jungle Cruise” for Disney Pictures reports Deadline.
The aim is to re-team “Toy Story” duo Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in this live action family film inspired by said ride. The studio has been struggling for years to get the property going, previously “Smallville” showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar were hired to pen a draft back in 2006, but the pairing of Hanks and Allen would immediately push this towards production.
The ride itself has parkgoers traveling the jungle river guided by a riverboat skipper, encountering such wild creatures as piranhas and gorillas during their tour.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (“The Fighter”) will produce, no director has yet been set.
