Tom Hanks is attached to star in a film adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel “The Circle” for Playtone Productions.
The story centers on a young woman who lands a job at a powerful online company dubbed The Circle, a company that creates an online entity from the information contained within your digital shadow (e-mails, credit cards, banking, social media, etc.).
The story explores themes of online transparency, the loss of privacy and the monetisation of personal data. It isn’t known what role Hanks may play in the adaptation.
James Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”) will pen and direct the project which Hanks and Gary Goetzman are producing. The project will go out to studios and financiers starting tomorrow.
