Tom Cruise will top line a remake of John Sturges’ 1960 western classic “The Magnificent Seven” for MGM reports Variety.
The original was itself a loose remake Akira Kurosawa’s even more acclaimed 1954 “Seven Samurai” and followed seven gunfighters-for-hire tasked with protecting a small Mexican village from bandits. Three sequels and a short-lived TV series followed.
No director is onboard yet but the search for a writer is underway. Despite Cruise’s interest, the actor has no immediate plans to make the film which is quite a long way off even if it goes ahead.
