Oscar-nominated screenwriter and novelist Michael Tolkin (“Changing Lanes,” “The Player”) will adapt the 1982 Broadway musical “Nine” for the Weinstein Company reports Variety.
The original musical, based on the Fellini film “8½”, follows the life of famous film director Guido Contini as he reaches a creative and personal crisis and has to balance the numerous women in his life, including his wife, his mistress, his film-star muse, his agent and his mother.
Rob Marshall (“Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha”) is producing and directing the adaptation which will be rooted in the postwar cinema of Italy. Maury Yeston, composer and lyricist for the original production, will reprise his role for the film.
John DeLuca and Marshall will choreograph the film and talent availability will determine production and release dates.
