Toho, the company behind all the original Japanese “Godzilla” films, has announced plans to produce its own “Godzilla” film by 2016.
Toho produced its first “Godzilla” movie in 1954 and twenty-seven subsequent sequels which ended with 2004’s “Godzilla: Final Wars” being announced as the company’s last. With the $500 million+ box-office success of this year’s Hollywood reboot, not to mention the advances in computer graphics in the past decade, it sounds like they’ve changed their mind.
Toho has not yet decided on a cast, crew or budget for the upcoming film. However, plans are in place to get into production by next Summer.
On top of that, they’ve also launched the Godzilla Strategic Conference – a committee which aims to revitalize the brand and give it a more worldwide appeal ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
