With his new film “Carol” being all the talk of Cannes the last few days, many have been wondering what filmmaker Todd Haynes might get up to next.
Screen reports that Haynes is working on an adaptation of “The Invention Of Hugo Cabret” author Brian Selznick’s children’s book “Wonderstruck” for Killer Films.
The book centers on two intertwining stories: one set in 1977 and told entirely in words as a boy pines for the father he never knew.
The other takes place half a century earlier and is told entirely in pictures about a girl who dreams of a mysterious actress.
Christine Vachon will produce. It’s unclear when the project might go though as Haynes is also committed to Fox 2000’s untitled Peggy Lee biopic starring Reese Witherspoon.
Haynes is also working on a TV series about a radical experiment in communal utopian living in 1970s California.
