British actor Toby Kebbell (“Fantastic Four,” “Kong: Skull Island”) has joined the cast of the biopic “Daniel” which follows the story of Danish photographer Daniel Rye, a journalist who was captured by ISIS while working in Syria in 2013.
Spending over a year in captivity, Rye (played by Esben Smed) was surrounded by 23 other foreign nationals including U.S. journalist James Foley whom Kebbell will play. Foley was beheaded in August 2014, the first American citizen killed by the ISIL.
Anders W. Berthelsen also stars. Niels Arden Oplev, who helmed the original Swedish “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” directs the film which is currently shooting in Jordan ahead of a Danish release in September 2019. Global distributors are currently being sought.
