TNT Draws Out “The Closer”

Shortly after announcing that the upcoming seventh season of “The Closer” will be its last, TNT is now looking at ways to keep its hit series going either with or without lead actress Kyra Sedgwick reports TV Line.

“The Closer” remains the most-watched basic cable series of all time. Alternatives that have been discussed include extending the final season from 15 to 21 episodes.

There’s also talk of continuing the show with another lead character such as Mary McDonnell’s Capt. Sharon Raydor, or launching a spin-off series featuring the supporting characters in a new setting.

Should both strategies be employed, the network would potentially green light production of nine episodes of the Sedgwick-less “Closer” or the spin-off. Combined with the additional six episodes of the final season, it would give TNT another full season of fifteen episodes.
