Thwaites Scores Key Role In Fifth “Pirates”

The first three had Orlando Bloom, the fourth had Sam Claflin, now the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” has cast its young hunk role and this time it’s set to be played by rising young Australian star Brenton Thwaites (“The Giver,” “Maleficent”).

Thwaites is in talks for the role of a British soldier named Henry in the project which follows Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) being hunted by Captain Brand (Javier Bardem), a ghost bent on revenge against Sparrow whom he holds responsible for the murder of his brother.

Geoffrey Rush is expected back as Captain Barbossa, though other casting hasn’t been revealed at this point.

“Kon-Tiki” filmmakers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg are directing the next instalment in the franchise which begins shooting in Australia in February ahead of a Summer 2017 release.
