The full trailer for the seventh season of HBO’s big-budget fantasy series “Game of Thrones” arrived this week and proved a record-breaking juggernaut.
The video has reportedly been viewed 61 million times across digital platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and others in its first day alone. That’s thought to be the biggest number of views for a TV show trailer ever in a 24-hour period.
The specially crafted ‘Long Walk to the Throne’ promo from back in March is HBO’s most watched promo ever so far with 67.6 million views since its release two months ago.
The ‘Thrones’ sixth season full trailer scored 63.5 million lifetime views over its whole lifetime to date, showing just how quickly the old records get broken.
The news comes as the producers have finally officially confirmed that the soon to go into production eighth season will run just six episodes according to EW.
“Game of Thrones” returns to screens on July 16th.
