Three Vying For “Gambit” Female Lead

With Channing Tatum now locked in for the title role, attention has turned towards the female lead in the Rupert Wyatt-directed “X-Men” spinoff “Gambit” at 20th Century Fox.

A trio of rising young international actresses are said to be testing for the part: The first is Swedish “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” female lead and scene stealer Rebecca Ferguson, the second is French “Spectre” and “Blue is the Warmest Color” co-lead Lea Seydoux, and the last is Australian “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Ruben Guthrie” actress Abbey Lee.

All three are vying for the role of Belladonna Boudreaux. In the comics she was Gambit’s first love who eventually gained powers of her own (plasma bursts) and was the head of the Assassin’s Guild – a rival to Gambit who was the head of the Thieves Guild. The pair married to unite the guilds but things went bad fast and Gambit was forced to flee his New Orleans home.

Filming is slated to begin in October for an October 7th 2016 release.
