As soon as his press commitments for “The Martian” wrap up, filmmaker Ridley Scott is putting his focus square on the “Prometheus” sequel which will begin production early next year.
In a new interview with German movie site FilmFutter, Scott was asked if this sequel would directly connect the “Prometheus” universe to the “Alien” universe as many hoped the first film would. He confirmed it will, but not in the way you’d expect (the quote bas been translated from German):
“Yes, but it won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the ‘Alien’ franchise…
The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”
Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are set to reprise their roles in the project which will kick off shooting in February and will come before Neill Blomkamp’s fifth “Alien” film.
