Billy Bob Thornton is set to reprise his role of Willie Soke, the title character in the “Bad Santa” sequel at Miramax and Broad Green Pictures.
In the 2003 original, Thornton played an alcoholic, sex-addicted, professional thief who disguises himself as a department store Santa Claus in order to rob shopping malls blind at night. Terry Zwigoff directed the film which has since become a black comedy classic.
Miramax’s EVP of Film & TV Zanne Devine says: “We’ve been waiting far too long to see Billy Bob’s Willie Soke mess with the holiday season in his own unique way. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Billy Bob, the entire creative and producing team, and Broad Green and Sierra/Affinity to bring back the outrageous humor and characters that made this movie brand iconic in the first place.”
Geyer Kosinski will produce the follow-up and Broad Green Pictures will distribute the film theatrically in the 2016 holiday season. Production is slated to begin this January in Montreal.
