Thor Tops “The Best Man” At Box-Office

“Thor: The Dark World” stood atop the U.S. domestic box-office for a second weekend and garnering a $38.4 million haul. Through Sunday, the movie has grossed a whopping $480 million worldwide.

The Marvel film overcame the surprise success of the Christmas-themed romantic comedy “The Best Man Holiday” which exceeded expectations in second place in the U.S. with $30.6 million. The film, a sequel to 1999’s “The Best Man”, cost just $17 million to make so is already a healthy profit generator.

The rest of the box-office was relatively unchaged, the only other notable new release being Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” which opened on four screens and managed a $35,000 per-screen average.

Internationally, “Gravity” continues having legs and powered past the $500 million worldwide box-office mark this weekend.
