An open casting call is underway for an Indian epic with an unknown being sought to play the 500BC Indian prince who founded Buddhism reports Deadline New York.
David S. Ward (“The Sting”) penned the script and Ashutosh Gowariker (“Lagaan”) is directing the $40 million action film based on Kyra Pahlen’s biography of Prince Siddhartha, The Warrior Prince.
The filmmakers are keen to find a new face to play him and actors have until May 15th to submit to the Buddha-Movie website.
BK Modi is producing through his Spice Studios, Michael Shane (“I Robot,” “Catch Me if You Can”) is executive producing, and the Dalai Lama is being listed as consultant producer. Shooting kicks off in India at the end of August.
