Focus Features has reportedly wrapped a near eight-figure deal for North American rights to the elevated spy thriller “The Coldest City” which is slated to begin filming in October in Germany.
“John Wick” directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will direct from a Kurt Johnstad script which is based on Antony Johnston’s bestselling graphic novel. The project reportedly sports a $30 million+ budget which Focus has committed to a wide release.
Theron will play a spy who springs into action after an underground MI6 officer is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. She must find a list he was smuggling into the West to protect herself and the counter intelligence community.
Theron, Beth Kono and AJ Dix will produce. The project also marks Focus’ third recent high-profile commitment following the Natalie Portman-led Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic “On The Basis Of Sex,” and the film adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s elevated genre novel “A Head Full Of Ghosts”.
