A new report at Deadline today indicates that, after seemingly stalling, the Walt Disney company is progressing speedily toward its rumored acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets.
The talk first arose earlier this month with much of the excitement and concern centering around Disney being able to bring its outlying Marvel properties like Fox’s “X-Men,” “Deadpool” and “Fantastic Four” franchises under one roof.
Speaking with Vanity Fair this week, “X-Men” film series producer Lauren Shuler Donner was asked if she would be open to the Marvel Cinematic Universe welcoming the X-Men or other related Marvel properties into its ranks. She replied:
“Well, I wish. I would love it, I would love it. But it’s not for me to say… the problem is whenever I say anything about it, it becomes 15 headlines. So would we like to? Yeah, of course. Is there any movement toward it at all? No. Same thing. Same status.”
The report comes as the “X-Men” spin-off TV series “Legion” on FX has lost a cast member with Saïd Taghmaoui (“Wonder Woman,” “G.I. Joe”) dropping out of his role as a new form for the villainous Shadow King in its upcoming second season. The role will be recast soon.
