Iconic “X-Men” comic villain Mr. Sinister’s involvement in the film adaptations of the franchise was first teased in the end credits stinger of “X-Men: Apocalypse” with Wolverine’s blood collected by Essex Corp. employees.
Sinister, whose real name is Nathaniel Essex, is a scientific genius and pale mutant with numerous abilities including telepathy, telekinesis, regeneration, shapeshifting and teleportation.
It was thought this week’s “Logan” would tie back into his character, but the film makes no mention of him or Essex Corp. even though it does pick up the plot thread of what happened to Wolverine’s blood.
Speaking with Cinema Blend, producer Simon Kinberg was asked recently if Mr. Sinister will be making any big screen appearances in future:
“The short answer is yes. We’d love to see Sinister. I think he is one of the great untapped villains in the X-Men universe, and we do have plans to introduce him into the world.”
What are those plans? We don’t know yet, but with numerous films on the way including “Deadpool 2,” “X-Force,” “New Mutants” and “X-Men: Supernova” – it’s certainly possible.
