At a round table following the show’s New York Comic Con presentation on Sunday, actress Gillian Anderson has revealed to Screen Rant that she’s closing the door on Dana Scully.
Asked if she’s open to continuing on beyond the upcoming eleventh season, she says: “No, no, I think this will be it for me.” Asked why she returned for the new season she says: “it felt like it wasn’t over. It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.”
The first trailer for the new season aired during the panel and has now gone online. Currentl, at the midway point of production in the ten-episode run, those involved teased some new details about the upcoming season.
William, Mulder and Scully’s son, is reportedly playing a huge role in the mythology episodes this time around. Those episodes will serve as the season premiere and finale, with the remaining eight in between serving as standalones.
Former Lone Gunmen member Langley is in the show this season, as is an exploration of some of the backstory on the Cigarette Smoking Man. There’s also a Skinner-centric episode this year which will explain why he’s still an Assistant Director.
Also the eighth episode of the season will reportedly be as dark and ‘messed up’ as the legendary fourth season episode “Home” (and comes from the same writers James Wong and Glen Morgan).
“The X-Files” returns in 2018.
