Marvel has kicked off their first scripted podcast with “Wolverine: The Long Night,” a true crime style spin on the “X-Men” hero and dubbed an experimental moody, atmospheric thriller. The first of ten episodes is out now on Stitcher.
Ben Percy (“The Wilding,” Red Moon”) pens and Brendan Baker directs the story which follows special agents Sally Pierce and Tad Marshall as they investigate a series of gruesome murders in the rural town of Burns, Alaska. The bodies have been sliced and dismembered, and a pair of police detectives are at a loss on how to find the killer.
Earlier, residents spotted a short and hairy man near the docks. The slice marks seem to indicate adamantium claws – suggesting it’s the mysterious loner who has just arrived in town and is on the run from the Weapon X program and struggling to regain his memories.
But the case may be more complicated than that as more people are brutally murdered, a sinister cult rises to prominence, and the local sheriff seems oddly determined to get the agents out of his town.
Richard Armitage (“The Hobbit,” “Spooks”) takes on the role of Logan, who only briefly appears in the first episode but is a major character throughout. The writer says the aim with the story was to mystify the famed mutant again. Celia Keenan-Bolger, Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Tad Marshall co-star.
The first episode can be heard here, and a featurette is out below.
