The Sean Daniel Company and Platige Films have announced plans for a film adaptation of “The Witcher,” the Andrzej Sapkowski fictional work which inspired the popular and acclaimed video game series of the same name.
Oscar-nominated Tomasz Baginski (“The Cathedral”), who directed the opening cinematics for the first two games in the series, will helm the film based on a script by Thania St. John (“Grimm,” “Chicago Fire”) .
Specifically the story will be based on the short stories “The Witcher” and “Lesser Evil” from “The Last Wish” collection and will also serve as an introduction to Geralt the witcher, a nomadic monster hunter for hire.
The plans for the property are huge. The film is being tipped to serve as the beginning of a television and film series with the first movie set for a world premiere in 2017. Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Jarosław Sawko and Piotr Sikora will produce.
CD Projekt RED will continue to release content for this year’s “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” game in coming months.
