If “The Babadook” was the best horror film of 2014, and “It Follows” the best of this year, then next year’s “The Witch” certainly is the favorite to take the title in 2016 judging by festival reviews and trailer reaction.
A smash hit at Sundance which scored writer/director Robert Eggers a Best Director prize, the 17th century New England-set film also wowed them at Fantastic Fest. A24 picked up the film which opens February 26th, but used yesterday to release a new poster and official site.
The story follows a Puritan family exiled from their community in the American wilderness of 1630. Having built a home and settled, something in the nearby woods is lurking and threatens to tear them apart.
