The Top 10 Grossing Films Of 2013

“Iron Man 3” proved to be the highest-earning film of 2013 around the globe. The Robert Downey Jr. led Marvel film came in an easy first with $1.215 billion, well ahead of nearest competitor “Despicable Me 2” with $918 million. In fact, eight out of the top ten films this year were either sequels or reboots, the only ones that weren’t were “Gravity” and “The Croods”. Here’s the list:

3. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – $795m
4. Fast & Furious 6 – $788m
5. Monsters University – $743m
6. Man of Steel – $662m
7. Gravity – $653m
8. Thor: The Dark World – $629m
9. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – $614m
10. The Croods – $587m

In terms of U.S. domestic box-office, audience numbers remained steady with 1.36 billion tickets sold in 2013. Pricier tickets for 3D and IMAX screenings have raised revenue by over $100 million this year to a new record of $10.9 billion in North America alone.
