Straight from Sony‘s media briefing at Paris Games Week comes the launch trailer for the upcoming “Star Wars Battlefront II”.
Featuring new characters created by Motive in close partnership with the story group at Lucasfilm, the single player campaign is set in the 30 years between the destruction of Death Star II and the rise of the First Order. Players will also encounter and play as other iconic Star Wars heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during the campaign.
The clip comes as Kotaku has done a detailed breakdown of what went wrong with Visceral Games’ “Star Wars” game codenamed Ragtag which was scrapped the other week. Essentially it boiled down to Visceral wanting to tell an organised crime story set in the “Star Wars” universe, whereas EA wanted more marketable stuff like lightsabers and Jedi.
Additionally EA didn’t provide Visceral with nearly enough staff and resources, and they demanded they use the Frostbite game engine which is fine for first-person shooters but terrible for an “Uncharted” or “Tomb Raider”-style third-person action-adventure. Essentially it paints EA as a corporation driven only by the need to make money and putting ridiculous demands on under resourced staff.
“Star Wars Battlefront II” will be available worldwide on November 17th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC.
