Shawn Ryan, the creator and producer of the highly acclaimed cop drama “The Shield,” has confirmed that the Michael Chiklis-led series is getting remastered in high-definition.
Speaking on Twitter, Ryan revealed that after months of discussions and tests, Sony and Fox are moving forward with a 4K widescreen conversion of “The Shield”.
Ryan says as the show was filmed on 16mm film and not digitally, it makes for an ideal candidate for this kind of remastering. As does the fact each of the show’s seasons was filmed ‘widescreen safe’ and so shouldn’t have any issues with the transfer.
Ryan says: “I was dubious going in since the gritty, grainy look of the show is so essential to its impact. But the tests really won me over.” He adds that he will personally oversee and approve the work on each episode and make sure that the quality is what it needs to be, and that licenses for all the music used in the series has been locked and set.
The project is still in early stages and the aim is to have the entire series converted by early 2017 when it will be released to Blu-ray, DVD and streaming services.
