“Avengers: Infinity War” duo Joe and Anthony Russo and their new production company AGBO have entered exclusive negotiations for the screen rights to first-time author Nico Walker’s “Cherry”.
AGBO bid a $1 million outright buy for the book with the Russos looking to make this the next film they direct. Jessica Goldberg, the creator of Hulu’s “The Path,” will pen the script.
The novel parallels the true life story of the author, a former Army medic from an affluent family who returned from Iraq with extreme un-diagnosed PTSD and fell into opioid addiction. He then began robbing banks, ultimately robbing about a dozen of them.
Walker was caught in 2011 and is scheduled to be released in 2020, meaning negotiations are being done over a prison phone. He reportedly won’t be held under any Son of Sam statutes (which prevent profiting from crime) because he didn’t hurt anyone whilst committing said crimes.
