20th Century Fox, Def Pictures and Misher Films have begun development of the Russell Simmons biopic “Life and Def: Sex Drugs Money + God”.
The project will cover both the rise of rap and hip hop in America and Simmons’ rise from the inner city area of Queens to become a major impresario in that world.
Simmons was a major player at Def Jam Records, which has included acts such as L.L. Cool J, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Jay-Z and DMX.
“Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris will pen the script while Simmons himself is set to produce alongside Kevin Misher.
