“The Ray” To Have TV’s First Gay Superhero Lead

CW Seed has announced that its new animated series, “Freedom Fighters: The Ray,” will boast the first gay superhero to lead a series.

Inspired by the Grant Morrison version of the DC Comics character found in the pages of The Multiversity, the story follows Raymond ‘Ray’ Terrill – a journalist who is exposed to a ‘genetic light bomb’ which grants him various light-based powers.

Calling himself The Ray, he’s recruited by the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists. “Arrow” executive producers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim will serve in that capacity on this show which is slated to debut in 2017.
