“The Raid” director Gareth Evans is in early discussions to pen and direct a film centering on the DC Comics villain Deathstroke with “True Blood” and “Magic Mike” alum Joe Manganiello attached to star.
Last year Manganiello was attached to star as the character who was to serve as the antagonist on “The Batman” film back when Ben Affleck was attached to direct. At the time a brief video went online of Manganiello in a costume test on the set of “Justice League”.
Then “The Batman” got delayed and overhauled with Matt Reeves taking over the project and shelving Affleck’s script. As a result, both Manganiello and Deathstroke looked like they wouldn’t be a part of the film.
Evans meanwhile was offered and passed on the “Justice League Dark” film, but impressed DC execs with a pitch for a solo “Deathstroke” movie that they decided to go forward with the spin-off. Manganiello is now attached again as the character who is also known as the mercenary and famed assassin Slade Wilson. Deathstroke first appeared in 1980 and has been portrayed on screen by Manu Bennett on The CW’s “Arrow” where he served as the second season’s ‘big bad’.
Evans is finishing up his period thriller “Apostle” which will hit Netflix next year.
