“The Punisher” Series Embraces Adult Drama

Last year Jon Bernthal debuted in the role of Frank Castle, aka. The Punisher, in the second season of Marvel and Netflix’s “Daredevil” TV series. His work stole the show so much that a spin-off series centering on his character was immediately greenlit.

The first season has now finished filming and is due for release in full on the streaming service sometime in late 2017. One of the first season’s directors, Stephen Surjik, has spoken briefly with LA Talk Radio about the series and revealed it has a different tone to all the other previous Marvel/Netflix series collaborations:

“It is different than the other Marvel shows as far as it is an adult drama. There are no superpowers. You know the Punisher is a character who is based on vengeance, fundamentally. His family is a victim of some horrific thing, but the character himself is well-known and the way that they approach it is very different from the other shows.”

Surjik has helmed episodes of all the previous Marvel & Netflix shows with the next series being “The Defenders” which will arrive August 18th.
