Netflix has officially announced that it is spinning off Jon Bernthal’s “Daredevil” character of Frank Castle into his own “The Punisher” TV series.
Even before the former “The Walking Dead” star made his debut in the role on the second season of Marvel’s flagship show on the streaming giant, rumors swirled that this possibility was in the works – something dismissed at the time.
“Hannibal” executive producer Steve Lightfoot will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Netflix itself broke the news with a tweet, and said “The Punisher is back. Locked and loaded.”
“Marvel’s The Punisher” would mark the sixth series in collaboration between Netflix and Marvel, following the already aired “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones” along with the upcoming “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders” mini-series.
