The Player To Get A Tv Series Sequel

Author Michael Tolkin, whose book “The Player” was adapted into the famed Hollywood-skewering Robert Altman 1992 film, says a follow-up TV series is in the works.

Speaking about this Fall’s Showtime miniseries “Escape at Dannemora” starring Benicio del Toro and Paul Dano in which he’s involved, he tells Slashfilm that he’s developing his 2006 novel “The Return of the Player” into a series for Warners Television. He adds the project is only in the early stages.

Tim Robbins starred in the original as producer Griffin Mill who got away with murder. The series is set fifteen years later and the producer “is down to his last six million dollars and he doesn’t know what he’s going to do – he’s in a panic about his future.”

There’s one obvious question – could they lure Tim Robbins back to the Griffin Mill role? “We’re not at the casting stage yet. It would be wonderful to have him” says Tolkin.
