The Next “Captain America” To Be “Simple”

With so many superheroes set to make cameos in the film, not to mention a central concept rich for thematic exploration, it’s understandable that there’s expectation of next year’s “Captain America: Civil War” boasting a fairly complicated narrative that will keep many balls in the air.

In a new extended interview with Zap2it, Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige says that perception is actually not quite right. In fact the central plot will remain fairly clean and simple:

“Civil War is a relatively simple story. [Avengers: Age of Ultron] had a lot going on. Civil War is a surprisingly grounded story about two characters that most audience members have come to know and like and admire finding themselves on different sides of a political argument, like the country does on many occasions, and how they both respond to that. That’s the story. So it’s actually a very, very simple story, and then how their personal relationships fit into that.”

Never fear though, the film will also continue dealing with Steve’s attempts to find and save Bucky Barnes:

“Can he save his friend? Can he turn the Winter Soldier back into Bucky? Is that even possible? While the Winter Soldier, from most other people’s point of view, is the deadliest, worst assassin of the past 70 years. So some people are like, ‘Cap, you’ve got to let it go. He’s not the guy that you used to know.’ So it’s a surprisingly personal story with a simple and very efficient plot that I think allows all those characters to have a presence and interact in a way different from other films we’ve made.”

Feige also confirms that the post-credits scene on “Ant-Man,” which sees Captain America (Chris Evans) and the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) finding a captured Winter Soldier (Sebestian Stan), will be an actual scene “that will play a part at a certain point in Civil War”. He also confirms that Hank Pym’s dislike of the Avengers will play a part in size-shifting superhero Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his attitude towards the team.

“Captain America: Civil War” is set for release on May 6th 2016.
