The New “xXx” Film Is Huge In China

Vin Diesel’s “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” looks set to make more in its opening weekend in China than it has in North America to date.

The film opened in the Middle Kingdom today and is headed for a $20.3 million opening day haul.

That suggests an opening weekend bigger than the $41 million to date the film has brought in so far domestically since it opened January 20th.

The film benefits from the popularity in China of both lead Vin Diesel and Donnie Yen, and being the first major Hollywood release since the beginning of the lunar new year holidays.

The Chinese market effectively saved Duncan Jones’ “Warcraft” and helped “Pacific Rim” perform well enough to justify a sequel. Looks like it saved Xander Cage from extinction too.
