The first footage from James Gray’s “The Lost City of Z” emerged online today in a three-minute long sales trailer that was quickly taken down by Sierra Affinity.
Based on David Grann’s 2009 nonfiction novel, Charlie Hunnam stars as early 20th century explorer Percy Fawcett who disappeared while searching of the lost city in the Amazon in 1925. Also onboard are Tom Holland as his son, Sienna Miller as his wife and Robert Pattinson as a fellow explorer.
The trailer revealed new details about the film – Hunnam’s Fawcett leaves behind his family in England to go exploring and search for a lost city of gold in Bolivia. Whilst sailing down the Amazon, he’s attacked by natives until Fawcett conveys to them that they are harmless. Entering the tribe’s village, they learn these people are cannibals.
Fawcett returns to England with belief in a lost civilization in the Amazon, including a city “bedecked with gold,” but his stories are met with incredulity from the establishment who refuse to believe the ‘savages’ he met are their equals. Miller’s wife grows frustrated by being left behind as he is off exploring. The trailer presently can still be found searching for the film’s title on video sites, but likely won’t stay up for long.
