The Last of Us Movie On The Way?

Game studio Naughty Dog have created two of the most acclaimed console games of the last decade – 2009’s “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” and this year’s “The Last of Us”. While attempts have been made to translate the “Uncharted” game series to film, there hasn’t been any talk of doing the same for ‘Last’… until now.

IGN reports that Sony has registered domains for a potential movie version of “The Last Of Us” through its brand protection agency, MarkMonitor. and are both now Sony property.

This doesn’t confirm a film is in development, more likely the company is just reserving them for safekeeping in case the idea ever comes to fruition.

Released back in June, the game follows a man named Joel as he treks across a post-apocalyptic United States in 2033, in order to escort the young Ellie to a resistance group who believe she may be the key to curing the global pandemic caused by a mutated strain of fungus.

The title is the fastest-selling PS3 game of 2013, with several million copies sold. It holds a Metacritic ranking of 95/100, on par with the likes of “Portal 2” and “Red Dead Redemption,” though just behind “Grand Theft Auto V,” “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” and “Batman: Arkham City”.
