Years ago, a Kickstarter campaign successfully funded an animatic test reel for a potential animated film based on cult comic “The Goon” with Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti lending their voices.
The reel was made in the hopes of luring investors and studios interested… but no-one took the bait. Now, nearly a decade on, VFX company Blur Studios has announced on said Kickstarter page that the movie is officially in development at 20th Century Fox with the help of The Chernin Group (“Planet of the Apes,” “Oblivion”).
Blur wrote in a statement this week: “With your generous contributions, we were able to finish a full storyboard animatic of the film, complete with excellent voice acting, sound design, and music. This template for the film sold the producers and studio on the potential of THE GOON and we’re beginning a new round of development.”
