The “Fletch” Reboot Switches Studios

The proposed reboot of the “Fletch” comedy franchise has survived a studio transition with Warner Bros. Pictures dropping the project which Relativity Studios has now picked up.

Based on Gregory McDonald’s eleven-book series of mystery novels featuring the character Irwin M. Fletcher, Chevy Chase starred as the wisecracking reporter in the two films previously produced in 1985 and 1989.

Negotiations are underway with Jason Sudeikis to star in the film. Sudeikis was eyed for the starring role in the Warners version.

No word on the plot for the new one, though it is rumored to be an origin story and could be inspired by the eighth novel in the series “Fletch Won”. John Rickard will produce the film.
