The CW continued promotion for its upcoming “The Flash” series this week with a panel appearance at PaleyFest. Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg were on-hand along with actors Jesse L. Martin (Detective West) and Candice Patton (Iris West).
This led to the question of another incarnation of the Flash, Wally West, being potentially introduced on the show. In the ‘New 52’ rebooted comic line, Wally West was changed from an older Caucasian male to a younger African-American man. Berlanti admits (via CBM that the casting of two African-American actors as the other two Wests was a deliberate nod to the possibility: “We made [the] Wests African-American so that we could head in that direction.”
In other ‘Flash’ news, TV Line reports that a “electricity-wielding metahuman” named Farooq/Blackout will show up in the seventh episode and is seeking vengeance against Barry’s mentor Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh).
Blackout was first introduced in the ‘Flashpoint’ comic book event which led to DC’s ‘New 52’ reboot. In that comic he was something of a hero, whereas on the show he’s very much a villain.
