Some more news today about two of the key additions to the cast of the second season of The CW’s “The Flash”. First up iconic gravel-voiced actor Tony Todd (“Candyman,” “Final Destination”) has scored the voice role of Zoom, the major antagonist for the season.
Following the events of the first season, the second episode of the new season sees the return of Reverse-Flash who is getting a makeover and becoming ‘Zoom’. Like last season, there will be a mystery as to who – or even what – is under the suit and the big reveal will take place a lot later than that of the Reverse Flash’s identity in the first season. Speaking about Todd’s hiring, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells Variety:
“Last year, with the Reverse-Flash, we just modulated the actor’s voice… this year we wanted to do something a little bit different. Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader – this iconic voice coming out of this mask.
Last year, we thought of the Reverse-Flash as a speed warrior; this year, Zoom is like a speed demon, and no one does demon-voice better than Tony Todd.
The Zoom outfit is much more organic than the Reverse-Flash suit. In a way, it’s hard to tell if it is a suit or alive… There’s no skin showing, for all you know there’s a robot underneath, or dark energy.”
He isn’t the only new character getting teased today as the network has released a new piece of key art for the multiverse-spanning second season that hints at Teddy Sears’ role as the Golden Age version of The Flash – Jay Garrick.
The iconic helmet worn by the character made a brief appearance in the first season finale. Here he will be introduced as a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.
“The Flash” will premiere its second season on Tuesday, October 6th.
